CEO Appoints Permanent Registrar of Voters

(Santa Ana, CA) - Steven Rodermund, Interim Registrar since January, has been appointed by County Executive Officer James Ruth to the permanent position of Registrar of Voters. The appointment is effective December 22.

James Ruth Appointed CEO

(Santa Ana, CA) - The Board of Supervisors this morning appointed James D. Ruth as County Executive Officer. Ruth,67, who has been Interim CEO for the last nine months, was appointed Feb. 5 by the Board to serve as interim following the departure of Michael Schumacher. In today's action, Ruth will sign a contract which contains a 12-month commitment.

County Managers Receive Awards

(Santa Ana, CA) - Two County managers were honored this month for their professional achievements. Larry Leaman, recently retired Director of the Social Services Agency (SSA), was honored last week and Karen Roper, Homeless Prevention Specialist, received her award on October 17.

OC Ranks Fourth in Nation For Online Services

(Santa Ana) - The County of Orange ranks fourth in the nation and first in California for using information technology to deliver high-quality, easy-to-use services online, according to the 2003 Digital Counties Survey. The study was conducted jointly by the Center for Digital Government, National Association of Counties (NACO) and Government Technology magazine. Orange County tied with San Diego.

North Tustin Resident Receives Award

(Santa Ana, CA) - Larry Leaman, recently retired Director of the Social Services Agency (SSA), was honored with the Executive leadership Award on October 9 from the County Welfare Directors Association of California (CWDA) during its Board of Directors meeting in Sacramento. CWDA is a statewide association in which all 58 California counties participate.

County Names New PDSD Director

(Santa Ana) - Interim CEO James D. Ruth has appointed a planning expert with 32 years of experience to lead the County's Planning & Development Services Department (PDSD). Bryan Speegle, who has been PDSD's assistant director since 2001, will step into the director's role effective today.

Public Workshop Features County Budget for FY 2003-04

(Santa Ana) - Esmael Adibi, director of the A. Gary Anderson Center for Economic Research at Chapman University, will present an economic forecast for the coming year at this year's budget workshop, "Doing Business in Difficult Times." The free workshop will be held from 2:30-4:30 p.m., May 29 in the Board hearing room on the first floor of the Hall of Administration, 10 Civic Center Plaza in Santa Ana.

The ceremony will take place at 9:30.

County Volunteers Provide Services Valued At $24 Million

(Santa Ana, CA) - As the County faces severe State budget cuts, the value of volunteers becomes truly priceless. More than 24,000 volunteers and 1,084,000 hours of service were valued at $24 million in avoided costs for County government in 2002. To celebrate these achievements, the Board of Supervisors will honor volunteers at the seventh annual Countywide volunteer recognition ceremony.

Orange County Auditor-Controller David Sundstrom Accepts This Year's "AIIM Best Practice Award"

(New York, NY) - The Association of Information and Imaging Management (AIIM) announced today that the County of Orange was one of three winners of its prestigious Best Practices Award for 2003. David E. Sundstrom, county Auditor-Controller accepted the award on behalf of the county at the association's annual convention that was attended by over 20,000 industry professionals. Encompassing North America and Europe, the AIIM Best Practices Award recognizes innovative applications of document and/or process management technologies to solve critical business requirements.

Orange County Child Abuse Prevention Efforts Recognized With National Award Given to Children and Families Commission Member Larry Leaman

(Santa Ana)- Recently re-elected Supervisors Jim Silva and Tom Wilson along with first-time Supervisor Chris Norby will take their oaths of office at 2 p.m., Jan. 6 on the steps of the Old County Courthouse, 211 West Santa Ana Blvd. in Santa Ana. A reception on the second and third floors of the Courthouse will immediately follow the ceremony.
