SANTA ANA--The public is invited to participate in two workshops to help plan the Santa Ana River Parkway extension from Gypsum Canyon Road to the Orange County boundary. The County of Orange is hosting workshops in Yorba Linda and Anaheim to explain the project and solicit public input.

This 2.3 mile extension project is part of a regional, multi-agency effort to create a 100-mile recreational Parkway along the Santa Ana River. The Santa Ana River Parkway is a landscaped greenway with recreational paths located on each side of the Santa Ana River. It is estimated that over a million trail users already visit the Orange County portion of the Parkway each year.

To close a critical gap between the Orange County portion of the Parkway and the planned Parkway improvements in Riverside and San Bernardino Counties, the County of Orange is currently proposing to extend and realign the Santa Ana River Bikeway and the Santa Ana River Riding and Hiking Trail from Gypsum Canyon Road to the Orange County boundary.

The Santa Ana River Bikeway is a paved regional Class I bikeway; it accommodates pedestrians and non-motorized commuter and recreational bicyclists, spanning approximately 30 miles from Huntington Beach to the Orange/Riverside County line. The Santa Ana River Trail is an unpaved regional riding and hiking trail; it accommodates walkers, hikers, runners, joggers, mountain bicyclists, and equestrians.

The workshops will be held at the following times and locations, with the same presentation and interactive format at both:

Thursday, April 8th
Registration: 5:30 p.m.
Workshop: 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.
Yorba Linda Community Center
4501 Casa Loma Avenue

Tuesday, April 13th
Registration: 5:30 p.m.
Workshop: 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.
East Anaheim Community Center
8201 E. Santa Ana Canyon Road

At the workshops, community members will be able to share their thoughts on potential issues, opportunities and priorities for the project through a combination of individual and group activities.

The Santa Ana River Parkway project is funded by Proposition 84. Construction is estimated to begin in 2014 and conclude in 2015, after the engineering study, planning, and environmental documentation have been completed.

A website has been set up for the project at Website visitors can read more about the project and sign up for the mailing list to receive project updates and newsletters.
