Each year, the Operation Santa Claus (OSC) program provides gifts and toys to deserving children living throughout Orange County. Many of these children and teens may be homeless or living in foster care, group homes or temporary housing. Some have experienced abuse, neglect or abandonment. Services are provided to the youth and their families through the County of Orange Social Services Agency, Health Care Agency, OC Community Resources, Child Support Services and Probation Department.
Volunteers who give of their time and abilities are crucial to the success of OSC, and each year, hundreds of community members support the program primarily during the holiday season. There is one person who stands out amid this cadre of amazing volunteers for the many qualities and outstanding commitment she brings to OSC, and that person is Jeri Gable. Jeri gives generously of her time, talents and energy not only during the busy months of November and December, but also throughout the year. In 2017, she dedicated more than 270 volunteer hours to the program so that every child and teen served by OSC was able to share in the spirit and joy of the holiday season. Jeri provided support in multiple ways, from sorting and organizing books and toys to gathering items for teen gifts, which are often in short supply. She was always willing to assist with any task or project that needed attention in order to ensure that the OSC warehouse shelves were organized, well stocked and ready for holiday shoppers.
In 2017, Jeri’s remarkable talents and tireless support assisted OSC in distributing more than 41,500 gifts to deserving children and teens. During the busy months of November and December, she helped keep the OSC warehouse running smoothly by creating a welcoming environment for other volunteers and holiday shoppers, including social workers, parents, foster parents and health care and service providers.
Among her many attributes, Jeri is an undeniable bearer of integrity and civility, and an example of exceptional servant-leadership. Her positive attitude and extraordinary work ethic are a welcome addition to OSC and are worthy of our greatest appreciation and highest level of recognition.
Thank you and congratulations to Jeri Gable, recipient of the 2018 Excellence in Volunteerism Award!
