Keep Orange County Clean and Green at EcoChallenge Day at the Honda Center

Saturday, November 5, 2016 8 to 11 a.m.

(SANTA ANA, Calif.) – OC Waste & Recycling announces the EcoChallenge Day at the Honda Center. Residents are encouraged to bring e-waste, gently-used clothing and paper for shredding. Participants will have a chance to earn valuable prizes.


E-Waste is any electronic equipment that is near or at the end of its useful life. Examples include computers, CPUs, laptops, home use photocopiers and printers, cell phones, digital cameras, televisions (CRTs & flat screens), VCRs, video game consoles and associated devices. Documents for Shredding
: Any document that has personal information such as name, address, phone number, social security number, family information and personal records should be shredded.


OC Waste & Recycling, Anaheim Ducks Hockey, Discovery Cube and Goodwill of Orange County are participants in this eco-friendly family fun event, which takes place in the Honda Center parking lot. Activities include roller hockey, music, games, eco crafts, opportunity drawings, photos with Ducks’ mascot Wild Wing and more. (See list below.)
 

The event takes place at the Honda Center parking lot from 8 to 11 a.m. The first 200 vehicles to arrive will be able to choose between four Anaheim Ducks Hockey tickets or four Discovery Cube tickets.


 
“The Eco Challenge Day event combines sustainable practices with fun and learning,” said Board Chairwoman Lisa Bartlett. “This is a good way to help keep Orange County clean and green and engage our young residents to be good environmental stewards.”


Event Participants

ANAHEIM DUCKS – Event takes place at the Honda Center parking lot. Tickets and giveaways will be available.

OC WASTE & RECYCLING Learn about the Countys Eco Challenge Program and year-round household hazardous waste collection centers.

DISCOVERY CUBE OC Bring children to decorate their own reusable grocery bags. There will also be discussions about reducing plastic waste.

GOODWILL OF ORANGE COUNTY Collection services for gently used clothing and household items, e- waste, as well as onsite paper shredding services. Goodwill’s booth will offer games and prizes, as well as information about its programs and services.

OC SANITATION DISTRICT (OCSD) – Learn about wastewater, proper disposal of household chemicals/medications, and the What2Flush program.

INSIDE THE OUTDOORS – Learn about the 5R’s (Reduce, Reuse, Rot, Repurpose, and Recycle) and the anatomy of a landfill.

REPUBLIC SERVICES – Waste management information and games.

CITY OF ANAHEIM DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS –Will provide information on the importance of recycling and the environment.
