Waste Management Commission Elects 2017 Leaders and Welcomes New Commissioner
At its meeting on Thursday, December 8, 2016 the Orange County Waste Management Commission elected Commissioner Joe J. Carchio to serve as chairman for 2017. He was appointed by the County of Orange Board of Supervisors in 2015 upon recommendation of Second District Supervisor and Vice Chair Michelle Steel. Carchio served as the Commission’s vice chair in 2016. He is a long-time resident and former mayor of Huntington Beach.
Commissioner and Cypress Council Member Rob Johnson was elected vice chair for 2017. He has served on the Commission since January 2015. As an Orange County City Selection Committee appointee, Johnson represents the cities of the Second District. The Commission also welcomed Bret Plumlee, Los Alamitos city manager. Plumlee was selected by his Orange County city manager peers to represent them on the Commission.
The Orange County Waste Management Commission serves as an advisory body to the Board of Supervisors on matters relating to municipal solid waste, the county’s solid waste disposal system and waste diversion. The Commission falls under the purview of OC Waste & Recycling, which operates three public landfills, four Household Hazardous Waste Collection Centers, and promotes recycling through the Discovery Cube’s Eco Challenge exhibit and related education and outreach programs.
