County Seeks Applicants for ADA II Committee

(SANTA ANA) – The Orange County Board of Supervisors is accepting applications for membership on the newly established Public Services Access Advisory Committee. This seven-member committee will help the Board achieve its goal of continuing to improve public access to County services.

Each of the five Supervisors will appoint a member to the committee which will be joined by the County’s directors of Public Facilities and Resource Department and the Health Care Agency.

Applications for committee membership may be obtained either by FAX at 714/834-2989 or by calling 714/834-2721 or TDD # 714/834-6113. Persons applying for membership should fall into one of the following categories:

  • Representative of the disabled community
  • Person with life experience with disability
  • Professionals with training in implementation of ADA II
  • Members of organizations serving the disabled community
Applications must be returned by May 12 to Diane de Haas, ADA II Coordinator for CEO/Risk Management, at P.O. Box 327, Santa Ana 92702.

No applicant, nor any organization that the applicant is associated with, may be employed by the County regarding any contracts for the development or implementation of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Committee members will be subject to the County and State Gift Ban provisions.

"The committee has been established so members of the public can have input into the County’s planning efforts to continue providing accessible programs and facilities," said de Haas.

"The Board identified compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act as one of its priorities in the most recent Strategic Financial Plan," said Jan Mittermeier, County Executive Officer. "Like any good business, we need the perspective of our clients, and that’s what this committee will help us get."

One of the first activities of the advisory committee will be to help set priorities for facilities improvements for enhanced access by members of the disabled community.
