Service Changes Effective July 20, 2020

Effective Monday, July 20, 2020, the Clerk-Recorder Department will be closing its branch offices in Anaheim, Laguna Hills and at the Old County Courthouse in Santa Ana.

The department's office at the County Service Center in Santa Ana will remain open but only offer over-the-counter service for birth, death, and marriage certificates, all professional registrations, and real property document recordings. All other services will be offered by mail only.

Effective July 20, 2020, the following services must be requested via mail. No over-the-counter service will be available until further notice:

  •   Fictitious Business Name Statements
  • Official Records Copies
  • Notary Registrations
  • EIR Filings

 For more information about the services being offered by the Clerk-Recorder Department, please call the department's information line at (714) 834-2500, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., except holidays.

Birth, Death and Marriage Records 

 Note: The Clerk-Recorder Department does not maintain divorce records. Visit Superior Court, County of Orange at for more information.  

Who Can Request a Vital Record? 

Only authorized individuals may receive a certified copy of a birth, death, or marriage record.

Those who do not qualify as authorized individuals may receive an Informational certified copy. An Informational certified copy shows the words "INFORMATIONAL, NOT A VALID DOCUMENT TO ESTABLISH IDENTITY” imprinted across the face. Please note that Informational certified copies do not exist for a Confidential Marriage; only the bride or groom are authorized to order a certified copy.

Only the person requesting service will be allowed to enter the office.
Certificates are generally issued on the same day.
