Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is a common virus that usually causes mild or no symptoms. Some people can get a mononucleosis (“mono”)-like syndrome with CMV with fatigue, fever, body aches, and swollen lymph nodes, and/or hepatitis (inflammation of the liver), which gets better on its own after weeks to months. However, CMV infection can be serious in people with weakened immune systems or for unborn babies (congenital CMV).
CMV infectionsare NOT reportable in Orange County, unless associated with meningitis or encephalitis, which are reportable within one (1) working day by phone (714-834-8180) or fax (714-560-4050) to OCHCA Epidemiology.
