Comprehensive Human Waste Source Reduction Strategy Work Plan

OC Public Works, on behalf of the municipalities of South Orange County Watershed Management Area (South OC WMA), is working with water/wastewater agencies, public stakeholders, and other partners to develop and implement a Comprehensive Human Waste Source Reduction Strategy (CHWSRS) Work Plan. This Work Plan is a key strategy identified in the South OC Water Quality Improvement Plan (WQIP) to address the Pathogen Health Risk (click here for fact sheet) high priority water quality condition.

March 4, 2019: CHWSRS Work Plan Development and Public Information Meeting

An in-person meeting was held to discuss the development of the CHWSRS Work Plan and solicit feedback from stakeholders. See below for meeting information.

 June 20, 2019: Proposed CHWSRS Work Plan Submitted

On June 20, 2019, the South OC WMA municipalities submitted a proposed CHWSRS Work Plan to San Diego Regional Water Quality Control Board (San Diego Water Board) staff for their review and approval.

 September 6, 2019: San Diego Water Board Comments Received

San Diego Water Board staff provided comments on the proposed CHWSRS Work Plan in a letter dated September 6, 2019. The majority of the letter addresses the 2017-18 WQIP Annual Report, which was submitted by South OC WMA municipalities on January 31, 2019. However, specific comments on the CHWSRS Work Plan are provided on pages 13 - 15.

February 14, 2020: Final CHWSRS Work Plan

On February 14, 2020, the South OC WMA municipalities finalized the CHWSRS Work Plan. This document addresses the San Diego Water Board's comments, which were received on September 6, 2019.
