ACTION: What does the volunteer do?

Founded by Barry Ancheta and his wife Michelle, Stay Classick is an organization that gives back to the community through their support of the Operation Santa Claus program. For over five years, the Stay Classick organization have leveraged the strength of their Southern California car community in an effort to make a difference in the lives of underprivileged children during the holiday season.

Stay Classick organizes an annual Classick Sleigh Ride event, which has become a holiday tradition and staple for many in their car community. This event has continued to show tremendous growth. Each year Barry and Michelle have made it a goal to increase donations, and exceed the previous year’s donations. In 2018, they collected over 1,056 toys for Orange County’s neediest children!  The Stay Classick organization has committed to working hard year after year to provide continued support of Operation Santa Claus.

NEED: What community need does the volunteer address?

Stay Classick’s efforts directly benefit Orange County’s most vulnerable children served by Social Services Agency programs including those in placement with Resource Families or group homes who have suffered neglect or abuse.

IMPACT: What is different as a result of the volunteer's service?

As a result of Barry and Michelle’s efforts, tremendous positive holiday spirit of giving is generated among their members. This contributes to a greater good of generating positivity in our community in addition to highlighting the Operation Santa Claus giving program and increasing overall awareness and support of Operation Santa Claus.  In addition, given the vulnerability of the beneficiaries of their toy drive, Barry and Michelle tend to bring extra motivation and effort to collect as many toys as possible.

To prepare, Stay Classick organizes toy drives throughout the community in anticipation and support of their Classick Sleigh Ride Event.  Toys collected from this event are able to be distributed to children who may not have otherwise received the gift of joy during the holiday season.

INSPIRATION: What makes the volunteer unique/special?

Through Barry and Michelle’s efforts and their Classick Sleigh Ride Event, they are able to bring together hundreds of car enthusiasts and car clubs for one common cause. In lieu of an entrance fee, each car show participant is encouraged to donate toys for the benefit of Operation Santa Claus and the children it serves. This component adds an extra level of excitement for participants, as they know their donation is going to a good cause, especially during the holiday season.

Thank you and congratulations to Stay Classick, recipient of the 2019 Excellence in Volunteerism Award!
